The archbishop began his campaign
To eliminate those who refused
To accept the Catholic church
Like the Protestants and the Jews
They were easy to find
And at first the inquisitions lacked abuse

But the third group was insideous
And liked to remain well hidden
They looked just like your neighbors
But what they practiced was forbidden

How to identify witches?
The Malleus Maleficarum
Outlined a series of tests
Die if you pass, burn if you fail
Let the torture begin
And lash them to the stake
Confiscate their possessions
They are now property of the state

You have been accused of practicing witchcraft
By the authority of the Diocese you are now on trial
For your perverse actions against God
What is your defense?

Confess!- of consorting with the devil
Confess!- to practicing witchcraft and evil
Confess!- you are leaving your mortal coil
Confess! - to save your eternal soul

Villages burned to the ground
Leaving one survivor to stand
A righteousness disguised land grab
Devised by the power mad

Mob mentality feeds on itself
Drawing in all kinds
It infects the peasants
As well as many lords
It's easy to accuse your neighbor
Of practicing the dark arts
When they take him away

Almost 1000 died, from serfs to nobility
